Launched in 2018, the OSD Remote App achieved 50,000 downloads within its first year and surpassed 100,000 in three years. Given the app-to-hardware tethering, this represents a direct install base of over 100,000 MSI monitor units, validating the app's critical role in the user's purchasing decision.
Overviews
Designed in 2018 to replace physical buttons with fluid digital control, the OSD Remote App was a pioneer. In 2023, I conducted a retrospective and identified a growth plateau.
To break through the limitations of the original 2018 design, I reimagined the app for the 2023 multi-display market. By integrating the MSI Gaming Intelligence visual identity, I've transformed a legacy tool into a modern, scalable ecosystem to meet modern pro-gamer demands.

Product Architecture
Architecture
The 2019 architecture was strictly organized by PC-centric categories - Adjustment, Mode, and Setting. By mimicking desktop hierarchies, the system failed to adapt to the agile nature of mobile interaction, creating operational friction that discouraged daily use.
To facilitate one-to-many device management, we restructured the interface into an "Index" and "Setting" framework. This transition ensures seamless device switching, focused parameter tuning, and the elimination of redundant operational steps.
Wireframe
Our 4-layer hierarchy streamlines the user journey. Based on our "One-Time Configuration" strategy, the user workflow naturally settles on the third layer (Pages a4, a5, a6), which serves as the primary interface for daily micro-adjustments.

To mitigate "Fat-Finger" errors common in the previous version, we transitioned from discrete taps to continuous swipes. This shift minimizes the need for precision, making the system far more forgiving and efficient for users in fast-paced environments.
Imagine adjusting your screen without reaching behind it.
One Phone, Multiple Screens
The PIN-matching logic serves as a "Secure Tunnel" for multi-device management. It simplifies the 1-to-N pairing process.

Integrated Related Products
The fundamental purpose of our app is to simplify hardware interaction. As market demands shift toward multi-monitor setups, our strategic goal is to extend this simplicity across an entire ecosystem of displays.
Instant Adjustment
A gamer’s focus belongs in the game. Our interface prioritizes "Immersive Real-time Adjustments," ensuring that hardware tuning remains a seamless extension of the gameplay rather than a distraction.

Module Switching
We established a set of market-validated default presets to provide a reliable baseline, while offering the flexibility for users to create and manage multiple personalized modules.

Multi-Screen and Multi-View
During the redesign, we prioritized the integration of PbP and PiP functionalities to ensure that virtual display management is as seamless as physical multi-monitor setups.
PbP:Allows multiple input source to be displayed side by side on the same screen.
PiP:overlays a smaller secondary window on top of the main display
Support PUBG
Leveraging the rapid growth of PUBG, we developed a game-specific module designed to capitalize on new market opportunities and enhance hardware-software synergy.

What did I learn?
01
Challenge Myself
I conducted a rigorous audit of my past designs, challenging my own legacy with a more mature perspective. I now assess product success through scalability, business alignment, and long-term ROI, ensuring that every design decision serves a strategic purpose.
02
Extended Scenario Pain Points
True innovation lies in returning to the user scenario, not just migrating features across devices. By focusing relentlessly on the user's context, we can unearth hidden pain points and design solutions that truly resolve them.
03
Leveraging Trends
Users may not always realize a solution exists for their pain points. By aligning our design with trending market topics, we amplify visibility and ensure our value proposition reaches a broader audience.
